Badz's BHA2 Judging: One-Winged Engels by Python Played on Normal mode The final score is out of 25, split as follows: Gameplay: 15 points How well the script plays. Each pattern is judged individually. The individual scores are further split as 5/15 for concept and 10/15 for gameplay. Creativity and theme: 5 points How well the script uses the contest theme. Based on having a fitting pair of characters, and making good use of both of them. Aesthetics and presentation: 5 points How good the script looks and feels. Includes visuals, as well as other presentation aspects like sound effects and the system. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Creativity and theme: 5/5 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This script does an excellent job at taking two characters with gimmicky danmaku styles and making them work together. There are some really interesting twists that wouldn't work with only one of them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Aesthetics and presentation: 4/5 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A custom system, a neat spell cut-in animation, and a cool stormy background. It looks very nice. There are some quirks in the dual-boss handling, though: Sagume always has a full life bar, and homing shots only ever go after Seija. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gameplay: 11.1/15 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nonspell 1 12/15 (4.5/5 | 7.5/10) Music-synced intro sequence? That's really neat. The actual nonspell is nothing special, but it's good enough as an introductory pattern. -------------------------------------------------- Spell 1: Bad Omen "Pheasant Shooter" 10/15 (4/5 | 6/10) It's a solid concept that could use a few adjustments. The rising arrows can be dodged almost entirely by standing still on Normal, and there's a little while with nothing going on before Seija does the screen flip. -------------------------------------------------- Nonspell 2 12/15 (4/5 | 8/10) It's a new take on both characters' nonspells, and it flows very smoothly once you know what to do. My only complaint is that the gaps in Seija's pattern seem awfully tight for Normal. -------------------------------------------------- Spell 2: Wicked Orb "Shoot Not the Trickster Mine" 13/15 (5/5 | 8/10) Ooooh, that's a clever gimmick! I feel like this would've been better if the green orbs' positions had some kind of pattern instead of being fully random, though. -------------------------------------------------- Nonspell 3 11/15 (4.5/5 | 6.5/10) It's a very interesting concept, but the actual dodging isn't terribly exciting. It does force focus or unfocus depending on shottype; I'm not sure if it's intentional, but it makes for a point of interest. -------------------------------------------------- Spell 3: Boundless "Torus Universe" 8.5/15 (3/5 | 5.5/10) I'm not sure how to feel about Seija's walls. With how fast they are, it's easy to get sniped unless you know exactly what to do. Sagume's part is fine, but it's just dodging some amulets while bottom-hugging. -------------------------------------------------- Spell 4: Turnabout "One-Winged Hero's Mirror World" 11.5/15 (4.5/5 | 7/10) Another clever mix of the two characters' patterns. I feel like there's entirely too much fire for Normal mode, though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Final score: 20.1/25 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Closing notes ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -I'm usually a Hard mode player, but it felt like it was above my level here (and it's a shame, since there are some significant differences from Normal). Considering your comments on Lunatic, maybe you're making things too hard in general? -Overall, this was a very interesting boss fight with unique ideas. I like the "puzzle-like patterns with spell practice" approach.
