RaNGE 19 - JDude For this contest I'll continue using a 20-point rating system. Points will be divided as follows: Danmaku Quality: 10/20 Danmaku Quality encompasses the quality of the danmaku in your script. "Good" patterns will equal a "good" score in this category. What makes a pattern good is subjective, but the #1 factor is fun. A flashy, gorgeous pattern that isn't fun won't fair well here. Note that aesthetic factors can still factor into this - proper usage of sound effects and graphics can make an unfair pattern fair, and improper usage of those can make an otherwise-fair pattern unfair. Individual patterns will be rated out of 10 and commented on with my reasoning, and the average of that will be taken to calculate the Danmaku Quality score. Usage of Reisen's Gimmick(s)/Creativity: 6/20 Expressing the use of Reisen's artifact in danmaku is the central theme of this contest. As such, the script will also receive a score based on how well it uses Reisen's gimmick. This won't be given on a per-pattern basis, but individual patterns might be mentioned in my comments for this rating. Aesthetics: 4/20 This category encompasses how your entry looks (and sounds). While danmaku should absolutely come first, visual and audio elements are also a part of the gameplay experience. ======================================================================================================================================= DANMAKU QUALITY ======================================================================================================================================= Nonspell 1: The stars transforming into fast aimed bullets is extremely cheap. If there was a warning, and/or if they started at 0 speed and accelerated, then it might be reasonable, but neither of those things happens. The rest of the pattern is a generic criss-cross that isn't bad or worthy of much praise, but the opening sours the rest of the pattern. 2.75/10. Spell 1: I like this. The lifebar feels too long, but otherwise it's reasonably fun micrododging. 7.25/10. Nonspell 2: It's a Reisen-like nonspell. It just doesn't feel much like something Marisa would use, but it's fine besides that. 6/10. Spell 2: I'm not sure if the blinking bullets actually lose their hitboxes when faded out, but they fade out for such a short time that it really doesn't matter. It's best to just avoid them, which makes this pattern a pretty generic game of dodging rings with two different speeds. Not as interesting or fun as the first spellcard. 4.5/10. Nonspell 3: Weird. Creative, I'll grant you, but very weird. You can get rid of half of her lifebar before even having to dodge anything, but then dodging this is just so...weird. Weirdness aside, I think this pattern is solidly average with all parts taken into consideration. 5/10. Spell 3: Pure random spam with movement constricting. Luckily it's fairly reasonable random spam! Still, though, it's not very creative or interesting to dodge. 2.5/10. Unrelatedly, you should really be sure to make the bullet spawners spell-resistant - see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYry4sAxKjE&feature=youtu.be Spell 4: It's a simple, effective and fun pattern. The concept for this is excellent. I think the first phase is far harder than the second, but besides that difficulty weirdness I like this a lot. 8.25/10. Average Danmaku Quality: 5.179 ======================================================================================================================================= USAGE OF REISEN'S GIMMICK/CREATIVITY ======================================================================================================================================= While Reisen's bullet-shifting gimmick isn't explicitly used, the patterns do feel fairly Reisenlike in a few ways. This counteracts how some of them don't really feel like something Marisa herself would use. 3/6. ======================================================================================================================================= AESTHETICS ======================================================================================================================================= Solidly average aesthetically, I would say. 2/4. ======================================================================================================================================= OVERALL ======================================================================================================================================= 5.179 + 3 + 2 = 10.179/20
