GAMEPLAY AND SYNOPSIS

My RaNGE 20 Contest Entry is a standard Touhou-esque vertical scrolling shooter. The theme of the contest was rapidly changing seasons, and I incorporated that into the storyline following my RaNGE 19 contest entry. The script contains a stage portion and a boss portion, with the changing of seasons omnipresent throughout the script. Like my RaNGE 16, 17, and 19 Contest Entries, the system is directly based off of that of SeitenTouji AMB and the script therefore comes loaded with extra features. There are two difficulties - Normal and Abnormal, and one player - my III Reisen. Abnormal difficulty utilizes the April 1 potential of the script and changes the danmaku ever so slightly, making attacks more difficult but primarily through 'troll' methods that mainly seek to restrict movement options for the player.

Default starting lives default to a full set of 9 extra lives, and extends are gained every three life fragments (life fragments are obtained when not dying to an attack).

POSTMORTEM

[July 11, 2019]

Looking back, this script was definitely one of my best. I knew my weaknesses going in and I did attempt to avoid the formula I had gotten used to when designing the stages. The boss battle did end up featuring a lot of repetition, but I still think it was a good length. Most of the spells were interesting, and I had plenty of fun building the script, which definitely matters.

I may not have placed in the top three for this contest but 4th place out of 14 participants isn't too bad, and it shows that even if I'm not doing a lot of Danmakufu anymore, my creativity hasn't run out. And so I'm glad that things went well.
