December 6, 2015

HTML and CSS overhauls underway in a probably hopeless attempt to make my website friendlier on mobile.

Phase 2 of the HTML/CSS Upgrade Project involves standardizing initial widths for viewports across the site, as well as transferring the main body div CSS to a spreadsheet, where widths will be made relative rather than static. This phase also includes ditching of fixed-width in-line CSS and things that are not actually used but have a negative impact when people visit the site. The STTJ subsite will not be affected by this.

Phase 3 of the HTML/CSS Upgrade Project involves changing CSS via @media queries in order to dramatically improve the quality of menus and other floating divs for a better user experience.

Phase 4 of the HTML/CSS Upgrade Project involves changing fixed width images to work well on mobile via scaling

Here are today's updates:

  • Top level pages upgraded to new HTML/CSS standards [Phase 2]
  • ./projects upgraded to new HTML/CSS standards [Phase 2]
  • ./ph3tutorials upgraded to new HTML/CSS standards [Phase 2]
  • ./classresources upgraded to new HTML/CSS standards [Phase 2]
  • All menus now use @media queries to dynamically shift locations if screen width < 480px [Phase 3]
  • All images should now scale to the browser width if below max size [Phase 4]
  • SeitenTouji subsite should be OK in the mobile department now, with a few exceptions, mainly the site logo scaling weird.

Yeah, yeah. I know. What have I been doing recently for the site? Well, simply put... I've been doing a lot of stuff under Class Resources, mainly in regards to my verb generator (not NLP, sorry), and I don't post updates about Class Resources here on the primary update log since this site is oriented towards a coder audience and not a linguistics/Intro Japanese audience. But yeah, I'll probably try to complete more Danmakufu tutorials (and make that guide to exporting music using Audacity) sometime in the near future. Patience please.

  • Website HTML fixes done in ./classresources
  • Website HTML fixes done in ./projects, with the exception of the centered spoiler buttons
  • ./ph3tutorials converted to HTML5 [Phase 1]
  • Website HTML fixes done in ./ph3tutorials
  • Update to Ph3 Tutorials - Extra Unit Lesson 1 (Bulletforge). Images have been replaced and information should be significantly more up to date in preparation for Touhoucon and future users

Sometime in the next few weeks, I will convert this entire website to the HTML5 standard, so I apologize to Internet Explorer users but this site will completely break for you.

Phase 1 of the project involves changing the Doctype and Encoding, as well as replacing the centered site logo with 'correct' format and upgrading the footer div to HTML5 standards. Viewports will also be standardized across the entire site, with the exception of the STTJ subsite.

  • Made index page for SeitenTouji project, filled in the first bio. This was accompanied by a new CSS file as well as me learning how to use tables and ruby in HTML.

  • Font size is now bigger, and it should be easier to read the website.
  • Top level pages now have a scaling logo and viewport enabled. This will not be extended to the tutorials since they use preformatted code blocks and honestly look better in landscape mode when using mobile than with viewport things
